Where we are strongest

Tropical & infectious disease.

Barranquilla sits in an endemic zone for dengue, Zika and chikungunya. That is not a marketing line — it is the epidemiology of the region, and it means naive and exposed populations are reachable for vaccine and therapeutic studies without importing a cohort.

Our investigators have published on:

  • Dengue and Zika vaccine research
  • Congenital Zika syndrome
  • Neutralizing antibody response
  • Chronic arthritis associated with chikungunya

We also work across HIV, tuberculosis and hepatitis.
